Taggart (surname)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Taggart is a sept of Clan Ross and bears similar traits to many other septs with a related name. The earliest record of this name dates back to the 12th century Scotland with Farquhar Macant'sagairt, the 2nd Earl of Ross. In gaelic, the name Macant'sagairt translates to "son of the priest".

The Taggart sept has its own unique family crest but the tartan is very similar to that of the MacTaggart clan or even the ancient hunting tartan of the Ross clan. The motto of the family is "Ratione non vi" which translated means "By reason, not by force."
