Tactile 3D

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Tactile 3D" is an interface for organizing files on your hard drive by taking advantage of spatial positioning. It tries to capitalize on people's ability to recall the placement of a large number of stationary objects. Each object, a file or folder, gives visual and audible cues as to its content, and may be user-positioned within the space.

Once inside the environment, it is possible to perform common file operations like move, copy, and delete. Moving a file is accomplished by grabbing the object, navigating to a different folder or position of your hard drive, and then dropping the file.

On the Tactile 3D site, there is a reference to Neuromancer, William Gibson's famous cyberpunk novel, in which hackers and a three-dimensional matrix cyberspace predominate.
