The Texas Association for College Admission Counseling, or TACAC, is a nonprofit, professional association. It was founded in 1979 as a chartered affiliate of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC). Approximately 2,500 members from secondary schools, colleges and universities, and educational consulting firms in Texas work to promote high professional standards in the college admission process by exchanging ideas, sharing common goals and preparing counselors to serve students in the transition from high school to college.
The Statement of Principles of Good Practice, a code of ethics for the college admission process, was the impetus for NACAC's creation in 1937 and is the foundation on which the association operates. Members cooperate in the development of programs and services in post secondary counseling, admission and financial aid to eliminate bias and to promote the dignity, worth and potential of all students.
