Purpose of use	Illustrates the TTT in the 2004 Tour, as well as the T-Mobile team, which was one of the major teams in the tour (placing riders both 2nd and 4th in the overall classification)
Replaceable?	Not replaceable - quality photographs of a bike race like this require being on a press motorcycle on the course, which is not something available to spectators. It would be impossible to get a decent photograph of the cyclists in action from the stationary perspective offered a spectator because of the high speed at which the cyclists travel. The TTT in the 2004 Tour de France was a particularly notable stage because of the inclimate weather, captured vividly in this picture. The TTT is also a uniquely good setting to capture a cycling team because it is the only time a team is likely to ride together in such a clear formation. Finally, the photograph is particularly artful, capturing the tone and feel of the bike race in a way that the amateur free-license photographs cannot hope to. For an event as rich in history as the Tour, this is invaluable.
