[edit] Discussion

I believe that this article violates Wikipedia's NPOV standard.

The following paragraph and, possibly the entire article, needs to be reworded Emperor Tự Đức did not live to see the worst effects of colonialism on his country, but he is often regarded as the last Emperor of Vietnam, since he was the last to rule independently. A case of smallpox left him impotent so he had no children despite a huge harem of wives he kept in his palace. According to legend, he died cursing the French with his dying breath.

Emperor Tự Đức did not live to see the worst effects of colonialism on his country

The effects of colonialism are debatable. If the author feels that the effects were negative please state what they were, and source them.

According to legend, he died cursing the French with his dying breath.

A source is needed. If there's a legend it must be written somewhere.

The author seems to disapprove of French Colonization of Vietnam. If the author wishes to discuss the effects of colonization he or she should do so in the appropriate article. This article is to disuse the historical life of Tu Duc, NOT French colonialism.

Your objections may be factually true, but aren't they inaccuracies rather than NPOV issues? Jake b 20:05, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
