Talk:Synergy Quintet

I am currently working on this. Please wait to delete, as I am nowhere near done. -PhattyFatt 23:36, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Done or not, I don't see an assertion of notability, and exactly 1 google hit for their album doesn't give any indication of notability.--Crossmr 23:37, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

I understand your point of view. Please allow me to give you more proof. You are making a premature judgement. After I add more information, then you can decide, if possible. -PhattyFatt 23:44, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

The group is notable, despite the fact that they get few google hits. Rarely do brass instrumental chamber groups gain much notability. That does not mean, however, that they have made no contribution to a musical community. Synergy has performed at music festivals and have also been artists-in-residence at BU. -PhattyFatt 23:50, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Does it satisfy any of this criteria? WP:BAND--Crossmr 23:51, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Yes. Let me elaborate:

  • Has gone on an international concert tour, or a national concert tour in at least one large or medium-sized country,[1] reported in notable and verifiable sources. (They are constantly touring the US--see their web page)
  • Contains at least one member who was once a part of or later joined a band that is otherwise notable; note that it is often most appropriate to use redirects in place of articles on side projects, early bands and such. (many members have been in more notable chamber music ensembles and Chris has opened for the Mighty Mighty Bosstones--see bios on their webpage)

I hope this makes them notable -PhattyFatt 23:56, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

They have also caught the attention of Mitt Romney, as they have played for them multiple times. -PhattyFatt 00:01, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Also, the band has recorded on labels like Aural Assault and Paraclete (both small indies I know). Part of the reason I am putting this entry up is because classical and chamber music has no respect. I feel that a wider array of musicians should be featured on Wikipedia, especially those in the jazz and classical genres. You wouldn't see jazz or classical on any pop list, and their combined sales every year is less than 5%. Despite their lack of fame, they are still notable in their genre of modern chamber music. I know this sounds like a rant, and has no backing to it, but sometimes there are groups that have notability beyond just those mainstream artists. -PhattyFatt 00:21, 24 July 2006 (UTC) Also, their CD is better known by "Masterworks for Brass," and that title gets many more hits on google. -PhattyFatt 00:03, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Opening for a notable band isn't the same as being in a notable band. If they were members of notable chamber music ensembles make sure you provide the links for it, and in regards to their tour, this needs to be reported by a notable source. Their website isn't a notable source, its a reliable source, but not a notable one.--Crossmr 00:05, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

I will provide those links. You will need to give me a few minutes. If you could, please hold off on deleting or taking more action until I do so. -PhattyFatt 00:07, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] CD on Amazon

They have an entry on Amazon. The CD isn't actually available on the site.--Crossmr 04:34, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
