Opposing parties in Greece claim that the coalition exists only because electionary laws in Greece favour parties that make it to the parliament, granting them more funds from the national budget, and that the lack of unity has lowered significantly its voice in Greek Politics. After the elections of 2004, where the party almost missed entry in the parliament, distrust rose against Konstantopoulos, who didn't apply for a renewal of his presidency later that year.
[edit] Article Name
The comma in the name of the article looks misplaced. I am inclined to change it. aliceinlampyland 17:14, 24 November 2005 (UTC)
- The comma has been removed, albeit somewhat belatedly, per the party's own preferred translation at http://www.syn.gr/en/profile.htm. ·ΚέκρωΨ· 10:49, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
- I think this is a case when 'official translations' needs to be adjusted. The name as it stands now becomes highly awkward in English. An alternative would be 'Left Coalition of Movements and Ecology', or even better just 'Synaspismos' (with explanation of full name in the article heading). --Soman 11:15, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
- Personally, I'd go for "Synaspismos", as that is the name usually used in Greece. The word translates to "Coalition", but that would be a bit awkward for WP. --Michalis Famelis (talk) 11:24, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
- Note that in the link above, the party refers to itself as Synaspismos in English, with the full translation in brackets. --Soman 11:57, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
- Should we go for it then? --Michalis Famelis (talk) 12:32, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, go for it. It would make a hell of a lot of sense. English-speakers in Greece refer to it as Synaspismos, so too does the Athens News.--Damac 12:43, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
