  • Dr. Syedna Burhanuddin → Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin
  • Delete because there are many different Syedna Burhanuddins, and people may not be looking for Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin. Syedna Burhanuddin on its own is also not a term that people search for. There are no incoming links to either page. Aebrahim 12:37, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)
    • Well, first, there normally shouldn't be incoming links to a redirect. Secondly, if there are many different Syedna Burhanuddins, should this be a disambiguation page? How many of them are notable enough to appear in Wikipedia? Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 13:17, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)
      • All of the Syedna Burhanuddins are equally important, they all held the same office. However, the Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin referenced in the article is the current leader of the Dawoodi Bohras, and is the only one of the Syedna Burhanuddins that currently has a page on Wikipedia. A list of Syednas (according to Dawoodi Bohras) can be found here. A disambiguation page would only make sense if someone were to write articles for the other Syednas, which I think is rather unlikely to happen anytime soon. Furthermore, the Syednas are known by their full name, it is very unusual to refer to a Syedna without their first name included. I don't have any strong feelings about this either way. Leaving the redirects there is fine, though I felt they were useless. I'm against having a disambiguation page there unless we actually have articles about the other Syedna Burhanuddins. • I would say to ditch the second, because we generally don't have pages which include titles. As to the other, how about we make it a pseudo-disambig page, one which i) points out that there have been several people whose partial name is 'Syedna Burhanuddin', ii) provides a link to the page you mention, and iii) links to the current article we have on the one we do cover? It may well be that people don't normally refer to any individal by that name, because it is ambiguous, but a web search for "Syedna Burhanuddin" does reveal a modest number of pages which contain this name, so I think we should have an entry for it. • That seems like a good compromise. Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 16:09, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)
      • Fair enough. Let's just remove the second one. While Syedna is itself a title, it is analogous to the title of Pope. The given name is never normally used without the corresponding title. Since Wikipedia has an article titled Pope John Paul II rather than just John Paul II, it makes sense to follow the same convention for Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin. Aebrahim 22:56, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)
        • Right, I did gather (from that page you linked) that "Syedna" was a title. (Although I must say I don't quite understand why we leave "Dr.", "Gen.", "King", etc out of article titles but make an exception for "Pope"!) Noel (talk) 23:07, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)
