Sydney "Syd" Humphreys Jr. (born May 19, 1987) is an artist, motivational speaker, and author from Evanston, Illinois. Humphreys, a graduate of Evanston Township High School, has created cover art for two books in print by Traveling Poet LLC[1]. Currently in production for 2008 publication is his first authored work, an autobiography entitled Syd the Kid (2008), and a full manga publication, Tales of Destruction. Humphreys' works are strongly influenced thematically by the combination of his jovial personality and his traumatic childhood experiences of abuse and loss.

[edit] Biography

Humphreys credits his father as his greatest positive influence and his mother as his greatest fear and enemity growing up. As described in his autobiography, an early divorce between his parents combined with false accusations by Mrs. Humphreys against Mr. Humphreys led to the Humphreys children, including Syd, growing up apart from their loving father with the extremely abusive Mrs. Humphreys. Through many terrifying, painful, life-changing experiences, Syd struggled from an early age with the most difficult yet most important questions of life. The aftermath of his childhood, including key broken relationships which he desires to heal, inspired Syd to write his life story through his eyes. It is his hope to help others understand the implications of their every day decisions especially in light of life's challenges, as he has learned that one's character development, relationships, and indeed overall future are shaped by and from these often unconscious decisions.

Artistically, Humphreys lists Akira Toriyama as among his strongest influences, as well as Stan Lee. He is an avid fan of many American comic and Japanese manga and anime series.

Syd is noted for his remarkable gift of story-telling, and his overall passion for the story, whether in the art, prose, or oral medium. He writes the stories of his own art work, as well as performs the penciling, inking, coloring, and lettering.
