I wanted there to be a trial period on another server, but they were oh-so-confident. Whenever I've been on a software development team, we've always had two or three separate servers. In addition to the production server, there's a development machine and sometimes even a QA (testing) machine. But they wouldn't let me "help" unless I agreed to learn PHP and read all their source code, so I said to heck with 'em: let 'em stew in their own juice.
