Sword of Allah
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sword of Allah (Arabic: سيف الله, English transliteration: Saifullah) was a title given to Khalid ibn al-Walid by Muhammad, the prophet of Islam. The name is considered by some to be an Islamic honorary title for Muslims of military valor, especially in (re-)establishing Islam against a kafir opponent. Known examples include:
- 7th century general Khalid ibn al-Walid
- Anzor Astemirov (nom de guerre 'Saifullah'), a senior field commander in the Caucasian Front
The term is also found, like many titles, in various individual names of persons and places, such as:
- Anwar Saifullah Khan
- Qilla Saifullah, and after him Qila Saifullah (a Pakistani Beluchi town) in Qilla Saifullah District
- Saifullah Khan
- Salim Saifullah Khan
- Zafar Saifullah
