[edit] Merge

The information in Swift Gamma Ray Burst Explorer could be used to create a section like "Science goals" or so. However, I see no extenal references,so some of the stated goals seem to be "speculative." Could the author please provide them? Awolf002 14:18, 22 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Okay I added the section. Now... What is the correct page name? The Swift web site does not seem to use the name "Swift Explorer". Awolf002 02:50, 23 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Changed the "Explorer" page to a redirect. Awolf002 14:47, 24 Nov 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Cost

Is there any need to include how much the project took? [1]

[edit] Successor to Compton Gamma Ray Observatory?

The CGRO seems to be the predecessor to the Swift. If so, it's worth mentioning.

[edit] A few updates...

Hi, I studied the Swift web site throuroughly before looking at the article and saw a few glitches:

  • Altogh the mission was started in 2004 and it's still active, the Overview was still talking about it'S initial 2 year duration not yet being completed... Moved the updated mission duration to the info box where it has a special field and added a reference for that info.
  • The BAT was described in the Overview at a very deep level in the Overview before it was even explained how Swift works at all and what it is about. The item on the BAT in the instruments section was rather an introduction compared to that text. Therefore, I merged the technical details into the Instruments section and turned the items on the instruments into subscections and let the instrument links in the info box point to them. (The BAT link was pointing to a redirect to Swift, so that fixed that problem and the broken links for the other two instruments too).
  • The Overview was talking about Swift using its reaction control system (it is described as a system using trusters to control the spacecraft) to control it's orientation while at the same time explaining that Swift uses momentum wheels for its quick orientation slews, so there was some contradiction and as one Swift newsletters that Swift does not have any consumables, it means that the momentum wheels description must be right, so I dropped the reference to the reaction control system. The paragraph on the momentum wheels also went much detail which was not relevant for an overview of the whole Swift mission. It would have a place in a separate section regarding the satellite hardware or even a separate article which only covers the satellite itself.
  • There was a cite to a printed journal (without URL) in the references section but it wasn't placed into 'ref' so it was not possible to check where this cite was related to. It was about a short GRB catched in 2005, so I guess it was intented as a reference for one of the two 2005 GRBs mentioned in the article but information on all the important GRBs can easily found at the Swift web site. 84.57.92.204 (talk) 06:31, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
    • The Swift discovery which must have been intented doe has a separate article already, so wasn't needed here anymore. 84.57.92.204 (talk) 06:41, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
