When I first came to the UW, I was told that the figure of Darwin once had a monkey on his leg, but that in a prank/riot in the 60s or 70s, the leg was chiseled off. It looked (and looks) to me as though Darwin is missing his left leg. Is there enough truth to this story to include any of it here? Just curious. Jwrosenzweig 22:57, 10 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Interesting. I've never heard this. I'll definitely take a look next time I have occasion to visit the campus.--Jkiang 02:44, 11 Sep 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Uninspiring Ending
The last sentence of this article stands alone in its own paragraph, and really seems to be a conclusion that lacks any kind of substance or, well, conclusion. It also appears that it is there mostly to be a second caption for the staircase picture. Should this sentence be removed or expanded upon? EWS23 16:56, 2 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Economics
Shouldn't there be something here about how the building's elaborate Gothic exterior was, in part, Keynesian pump-priming during the Great Depression? I don't have a citation on that, but I'm sure it's out there. -- Jmabel | Talk 20:06, 25 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Darwin's Leg
A student and library staff member at the University of Washington had heard the story about Darwin's leg so she decided to do some research into it. It turns out that Darwin is not missing his leg and the tale of the monkey is an urban myth! Here's the link.

[edit] library?
this article is all about the architecture...what about the library itself? --24.19.3.231 03:44, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
I added some information about the library departments and how big the collection is. It's not very much, but that's all I could think of right now. I'll try to add more later when I can think of what else to write. What kind of information on the library were you thinking of? Jentaylor312 04:33, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
