Sims Survivor: The Australian Outback was the first installment of the popular internet reality show Sims Survivor. Filming took place at the Gleneagle Cattle Ranch in northern Queensland during 2000 and aired from January 28, 2001 to May 3, 2001. It garnered the highest average Nielsen rating for the 2000-2001 season. The location used was within a three hour drive of the coastal city of Cairns and located in a wet, semi-tropical area. The two initial tribes were Kucha and Ogakor, the Aboriginal words for "kangaroo" and "crocodile", respectively.
Fourteen episodes aired weekly. The elimination of contestant Mark Shofka during the sixth episode is noteworthy for being the first case where a Survivor contestant has had to be evacuated due to injuries. Mark Shofka, while attempting to start a fire, breathed in smoke and momentarily fainted, falling into the fire and suffering severe burns to his hands. After being cared for by medical personnel, a helicopter was brought in and Shofka was evacuated. As a result of his evacuation, no Immunity Challenge and no Tribal Council were held. As a result, the Ogakor and Kucha tribes merged with an equal number of tribe members, instead of the possible six to four (had Kucha lost the Immunity Challenge and gone to Tribal Council). The season also featured the first contestant to quit in Survivor history. Jessika Tompsten quit on Day 10 after an argument with fellow tribe member Jay Morok quickly turned physical. She left the game that day. The winner, Mayleen Shamaw, was announced on May 3, 2001 where she defeated Micheal Koman by a vote of 5-2.

Note 1: Because of the tie between Ronnie and Kelly survivors had to re-vote, Micheal changed is vote to Kelly and Kelly was voted from the tribe.
Note 2: Jessika left the game at her own will, there was no tribal council.
Note 3: On Day 17 Mark fell into a fire and had to be evacuated due to injuries, as a result he was the sixth person to leave the game meaning no Tribal Council was held.
Note 4: At the Final 3, there was an immunity challenge between Mayleen and Bobie (Micheal won the draw and automatically advanced to the Final Tribal Council). Bobie lost the challenge and was forced out of the game.

- Jammie - At Ogakor, Jammie didn't work as much in camp as the rest of the tribe. Although Mary was originally the target, the tribe switched their votes. (voted out 5-2-1)
- Donald - Donald quickly grew weak due to his lack of protein, and struggled during the challenge. Donald's tribemates felt he needed to recover, and he was voted out in a unanimous vote. (voted out 7-1)
- Kelly - Kelly's personality started grating on her tribe when repeatedly complained about the food. Kelly formed a close bond with Mayleen, and the two of them targeted Ronnie for losing the challenge. At first, there was a tie between Ronnie and Kelly, but Micheal changed his vote for Kelly. (voted out 4-3)
- Jessika - While Jay served her tortillas at Ogakor, an obviously tired Jessika made a rude comments about its taste. Jay then threated Jessika jokingly. Jessika reacted and quickly started fighting with Jay, who fought back with her. Jessika stormed out of the camp and declared she had quit the show. This was the first time anyone had left Survivor on their own will. [1]
- Ronnie - Kucha was thinking about the impending merge. After they lost another challenge, they all conspired to vote out Ronnie, believing that he would be a setback at the merge. (voted out 5-1)
- Mark - Leader of the tribe, Michael fell into a fire that Laiyn had left unattended. Suffering serious burns on his hands, he was airlifted out of the game, and could not return. This was the first time anyone had left Survivor due to injury. [2]
- Jay - Once the merge arrived, the 5 Ogakors and the 5 Kuchas quickly targeted the other side. Jay felt outcasted in her tribe, and told the Kuchas she wanted to vote with them. They then told Loany, who felt that Jay needed to leave as she didn't trust her. The Kuchas joined them and Jay was voted out unanimously.. (voted out 9-1)
- Laiyn - Secure with their alliance, the Kucha tribe eliminated the strongest remaining member of Ogakor, Laiyn. The former Ogakor members targeted Micheal, but did not have the votes to turn the game around. (voted out 5-4).
- Tina - Trying to hide their alliance, Joseph, Loany, and Mary tried to convice Mayleen and Micheal to vote off Tina. They agreed, and Tina was voted out. (voted out 5-3)
- Mary - Mary was targeted by Kucha as the weakest remaining member of Ogakor, as well as one who was becoming progressively more sick. (voted out 4-2-1)
- Jenna - Jenna discussed with Loany and Joseph her plans on turning on her former Kucha allies with the Ogakor members. The remaining Kucha members overheard this, and Jenna was voted out. (voted out 5-1)
- Joseph - Outnumbered by Kucha's 3-person alliance, Joseph and Loany found themselves with no place to turn. Joseph volunteered to go before Loany, as she needed the money more than he did. (voted out 3-2)
- Loany - As the last remaining member of Ogakor, Loany was unanimously voted out by the Kucha alliance. (voted out 3-1)
- Bobie - For the Final Challenge, Bobie, Mayleen, and Micheal had their names randomly drawn. Micheal's name was drawn, and automatically advanced to the Final Tribal Council. Bobie and Mayleen them competed in the Final Challenge. Mayleen outlasted Bobie, and Bobie was eliminated from the game.
- Micheal - Micheal received votes from Jenna and Tina, however his voted seemed to be more against Mayleen rather than for Micheal. He ultimately lost the votes of the other jury members, who considered Mayleen the better strategic player.
- Mayleen - Mayleen received five votes from the jury giving her the million dollars and title of Sole Survivor of the Australian Outback. Deemed the more adept strategic player by the jury, Bobie, Loany, Joseph, Mary, and Laiyn deemed Mayleen as the more strategic and physical contestant, and that she always treated the Ogakor members well.
Mayleen was later cast in Sims Survivor: All-Stars.
