[edit] Harry Potter drawings
Could you tell us more about the (very nice) Harry Potter drawings (Image:Dumbledore's_Army.jpg, Image:Luna Lovegood.JPG, Image:Marietta sneak.JPG) ? Even though we do not require the name of the artist, I am affraid that a clear source and licence is quite mendatory; are these images in the Public Domain, or CC-BY-SA, or ... ? Just drop me a line if I can be of help regarding this. Cheers ! Rama 12:52, 22 July 2005 (UTC) (author of Image:Snape.png, noone is perfect ^^;; )
- Thank you very much for your search. We now have to require the formal autorisation of the author of the drawings. If you want to, you can simply post the URL on my talk page and I will try to contact the artist. Thank you again ! Rama 12:37, 23 July 2005 (UTC)

- Thank you. NOw it is very important for the author to mention clearly what sort of licence he would like to use for the drawings. Could you reply to him and ask him to chose one from http://creativecommons.org/license/ ? Sorry to be so troublesome, but makin things by the books it very important regarding copyright issues... I hope that you understand. Thank you for your efforts and for finding the images in the first place ! Rama 16:23, 24 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Mr. Popo
Rather than rename the article to an inaccurate name, I've reported the image upload problem as a bug at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical). Hopefully this will be fixed soon and you can then upload the image file under its correct name. -- Curps 19:54, 26 September 2005 (UTC)
- It shouldn't be necessary to do any of that. There should be a software fix to the Mediawiki software so that you'll be able to upload the file under the proper name of "Mr._Popo_photo.jpg"... wait a few days and see if this gets fixed. -- Curps 22:15, 26 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Block
I hear yesterday's blocks got you as well :/. With any luck something will be done about it soon - there are discussions going on at Wikipedia:Blocking policy proposal that - hopefully - will make it possible to block anons from an IP without affecting logged-in registered editors. [edit] Annoying block...
Hey, on User:Grutness's talk page you posted the following comment:
I made a (completely untested) patch to MediaWiki [1] which adds the flag I described above. If you manage to convince the developers to include this patch or something similar, and convince a bureaucrat to add the flag to your account, your problems with being blocked when your IP address is blocked should end. --cesarb 03:30, 14 October 2005 (UTC)
When I'm at home, I have the same IP address as Grutness, so could you do the same thing for me?
Super Saiyan Plough 04:18, 14 October 2005 (UTC)
- The same patch would work for both; however, I'm not one of Wikimedia's developers (who are the only ones who could add the patch to the codebase), nor am I one of the English Wikipedia bureaucrats (who are the only ones who could add the flag to someone's account after/if the patch is added to the codebase). --cesarb 12:08, 14 October 2005 (UTC)
Hi SSP - you might like to vote at Wikipedia:Blocking policy proposal, where there's a plan to stop anons at an IP rediting while allowing registered users to keep going. Grutness...wha? 01:12, 18 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] John Campbell
You added a sentence saying he destroyed Jenny Shipley. What were the circumstances of this? The sentence is almost certainly hyperbole, since he didn't physically destroy her, and if he made a fool of her in an interview, that wasn't the only reason she lost the 1999 election. At any rate, I'm removing the bit about "non-elected" as that isn't relevant to this article.-gadfium 03:28, 15 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Hal_Stratton.jpg
|
|
Thanks for uploading Image:Hal_Stratton.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --OrphanBot 05:04, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Hercule the Puppet.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Hercule the Puppet.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. Longhair 02:32, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image Tagged as Fair Use
Greetings. Thank you for uploading [[:Image:Uncle_Tobys_Original_Le_Snak.jpg]. This image has been tagged as fair use. Please add a detailed rationale for each use, as described on Wikipedia:Image_description_page as well as the source of the work and copyright information. Or change the image license tag to something more appropriate. Regards, Dethomas 20:01, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] re: NZ Images
Hey, where are you getting all them NZ images? Are you making them? If so, good on ya. I'd love to help, as there are many NZ place articles that still need 'em. - Supersaiyanplough|(talk) 9 July 2005 10:02 (UTC)
- Um, no, Grutness made them, I'm just processing them to making the filesizes smaller. He's already on a crusade to illustrate all NZ locations, so talk to him :) GarrettTalk 9 July 2005 10:07 (UTC)

- Hi - feel free to use the maps and make any you want! I've done all the NZ towns I'm going to, unless anyone asks for more, but I'm hoping to start on other geographical features soon. A couple of things - I made the one on the Cheviot article a little bigger (I've been using 160px as standard)... also you might want to make the font you used a bit bigger, to make it a bit easier to read (I use 18pt Geneva bold). Other than that, go for it! I'm glad they're useful! Grutness...wha? 9 July 2005 10:42 (UTC)
Arial should work - Helvetica would as well - any sans-serif which isn't too round or antique-looking should be fine. Oh, and as to "fluent in patent nonsense", thankfully I rarely use this skill on Wikipedia, but it's a very useful skill in writing. (My auntie Beryl is very old - she was born in the days before cardboard. She used to own a pet ant. She had two of them until the war, but then rationing came in and they took one away to work in the factories. 'Course she would have liked a wasp, but they were German and were all held in camps. Anyway, if the other kids had found out they'd have all wanted to play with it, so she'd have probably had to keep it hidden...) Grutness...wha? 9 July 2005 10:46 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Rambot-cruft
Template:Rambot-cruft, which you created, has been nominated for deletion at Templates for deletion. BlankVerse ∅ 05:00, 13 July 2005 (UTC)
- It looks like {{rambot-cruft}} is going to be deleted. If you must tag a rambot-generated article, you can use the rather generic {{geo-stub}} template, or better yet, you can tag it with one of the more specific geo-stubs created by the Stub-sorting WikiProject that can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Stub types#Geographical. The advantage of using the specific geo-stubs is that many of them are associated with a WikiProject so that the members of the WikiProject will often expand those stubs.
- Even better than just tagging a rambot-generated article would be try to help turn some of those geo-stubs into more full-fledged articles. Since you are in New Zealand, you might think about joining the New Zealand WikiProject and/or the New Zealand places WikiProject. One thing I would like to know is why Cheviot, New Zealand has seen a 13% reduction it its population from 1996 to 2001. And why was the Waiau River road/rail bridge famous? If you want to further expand the Cheviot article, you might explain when Port Robinson was a prosperous port, and what sort of goods went in and out of the port. [edit] 9/11 VfD
Hi Supersaiyanplough. A while ago you voted to delete a list of people who died in the September 11 attacks, saying "9/11 was a tragic event, but not every dead person can be on Wikipedia". Quite a few of the people who died have had actual articles created for them on Wikipedia, and while most of them have been moved to the memorial wiki by now, I've found some more and put them on VfD here if you want to take a look. I think they should be moved, because we have a special wiki for this, and as you said, not every dead person can be on Wikipedia. — Trilobite (Talk) 05:54, 15 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] idea for various "Shenrons" up for deletion
You didn't reply to it before, so I'll quote my idea here...:
- "How notable is this character in the series? For example, I've merged absolutely everybody and everything into The Legend of Zelda series characters and similar grouped pages. Every single character is in there except for the hero, the villain, and the princess. And Zelda is *my* dedicated hobby! So could you do something similar for yours? Master Thief Garrett 02:12, 2 May 2005 (UTC)"
So, what do you think? I know DBZ/GT has more lead characters than Zelda ever would... but how noteworthy are the Shenrons? I myself have no idea, as GT hasn't run here (NZ) so far. But are they each as important as Cel (Cell?) from DBZ was?
Anyway, if you put similar things together, or maybe even sacrifice some characters' importance for the good of WP (as I did for the Zeldas), you won't be accused of "cruft"-writing. Plus you could easily save the great content currently up for Vfd.
Anyway, hope that helps you! Master Thief Garrett 00:28, 7 May 2005 (UTC)
- Okay Mr Man, if you insist, I will merge all of the Shenron articles (with the exception of the most important one). But if I do, does that mean I can go around merging all kinds of articles? Example: could I merge the articles De Lorean Motor Company and De Lorean DMC-12? As the said company only produced the one car. Or ALL the individual Pokemon articles, with the possible exception of Pikachu as thats the only one anyone's ever heard of? I thinks all of these things, and more, deserve their own articles, for the simple reason that Wikipedia is not paper. User:Supersaiyanplough 04:00, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
-
- I don't "insist", nono, it doesn't matter to *me*.... but as I said it would reduce cries of "fancruft, fancruft!"
- Actually, there's already a plan to sort out the Pokemon (Wikipedia:Poképrosal). At the moment, the plan is to merge based on type (Grass Pokemon, Steel Pokemon, etc.) because right now they're just stat tables and can never be very useful articles.
- Yes Wikipedia is not paper, but there must also be a minimum level of notability. Transendent things--like Pikachu, Goku, Zelda, Samus, Mario, Dracula, Master Chief, etc.--all have earned their places here because they're known to the outside world (i.e., not just the fanbase). But to the average Joe, if they come across a character they've never heard of it is helpful if they can see the others right there on the same page, whereas a link means a click-through to each one, and web users are often quite lazy!
- Also, there's the usefulness factor; if a page is merely a stub, when merged it won't be so disappointing; that link didn't go anywhere interesting, but by scrolling up/down, the reader can find closely related things.
- In closing, it doesn't matter to *me* personally if you merge these pages or not, but there are users who, as you've seen, will merrily Vfd-ise anything they see as non-notable, whereas if it's all in a tidy (mini)list then they'll look elsewhere for their kicks.
- Anyway, hope that helps you! Master Thief Garrett 04:57, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
- Sorry if I offended you, I can see your point. But WHAT is Vfd? Is it like deleting it or something?
- Oh, sorry, I'm so used to using shorthand here! The full name is Votes for deletion. Someone suggests something they think should be removed, and others vote Delete, or Keep, or Merge, or Transwiki (like a dictionary definition moves to Wiktionary, etc.) or whatever. After about five days (and if there is a clear consensus, it's not merely a majority-wins democracy) that action is taken.
- Hope that clears it up! Master Thief Garrett 05:09, 11 May 2005 (UTC)
- Sorry if I offended you, I can see your point. But WHAT is Vfd? Is it like deleting it or something?
Sorry to break in here - but I felt I should state my agreement here...
- But if I do, does that mean I can go around merging all kinds of articles? - Yes. Meta:Mergist, WP:BOLD, WP:FICT. If articles are short, and you feel they are better off merged, then we trust your good faith if you merge them.
- Example: could I merge the articles De Lorean Motor Company and De Lorean DMC-12? As the said company only produced the one car. - Sounds like a good idea
- Or ALL the individual Pokemon articles, with the possible exception of Pikachu as thats the only one anyone's ever heard of? - Also a good idea, and currently under discussion at Wikipedia:Pokeprosal.
- Bottom line - information is most useful in context. And if you want to help organizing information, that would be wonderful. Radiant_* 15:39, May 11, 2005 (UTC)

Ahh, I see what happened with the VfD edits. It was OK that you removed that stuff, but you should hae copied it to the article talk page instead ot the vfd page, and you should have said something like "I removed the following: asdfasdf" and then signed your name to it.
