Super Columns was released by Sega for the Game Gear in 1995.
[edit] Gameplay
Columns, a popular and much-imitated falling colored blocks puzzle, had been the pack-in game with Game Gear at one time. Super Columns enhanced the gameplay by adding new types of blocks, as well as the ability to turn the lines of blocks a la Tetris. Aside from endless and flash mode, Super Columns also included a story mode, wherein you play against an evil merchant (and his cronies) who wants to harness a jewel to make the people bow to him.
Endless Classic gameplay of Columns. Stack up 3 of the same jewel diagonally, vertically or horizontally to clear them. The game ends when the jewels reach the top of the grid.
Story Stop the evil merchant from harnessing a jewel to cause people to bow to him. You must an opponent 3 times in order to advance in the game.
Flash The same as Endless, except you rise to the next stage by clearing the jewel(s) that is flashing.
[edit] Release for Palm
Sega released a version for Palm handhelds and distributed it through Sega.com.
