[edit] Biography
Born and raised in Atlanta, SupaStishun (AKA Maurice Devon) began writing rap and R&B music at 16 years old. He got his start recording in high school with a school mate and a low budget studio. Since then, the production of his music has made impressive strides. "Lalipop" (I Want Candy)", produced by Atlanta producer Baybe-Lolife, displays a sophisticated arrangement, a far cry from the base tapes of Supa's teenage years. Growing up, Supa listened religiously to the sounds of Slick Rick and Ice Cube. He also follows in the footsteps of major ATL rappers like T.I. and Ludacris, in addition to OutKast and Goodie Mob. Says SupaStishun about his favorite Atlanta rappers, "They did what I did; they saw what I saw. I just related with them all the way."
SupaStishun, recently won BlackPlanet.com's 2007 Talent Search for his latest single, "Lalipop (I Want Candy)",[4] making him the Emerging Artist of the Year. Linda Hobbs, of VIBE Magazine, agrees: "I was feeling SupaStishun's drippy southern flow... He rides the rock production well, and isn't afraid to be catchy like all the other southern emcees that's killing the clubs right now." Sickamore, the famous mixtape DJ and Director of A&R at Warner Music, one of the contest judges, told people to watch out for this "very marketable Southern artist". Supa has caught the attention of millions online through BlackPlanet, the social networking site. "I write about what I think people can relate too," says SupaStishun. "My music is an emotional roller coaster like a good book. I have content that will make you laugh, cry, and even make you angry." Only one winner is selected every year and 14,000 people on BlackPlanet.com chose him out of 500 other artists. The contest is sponsored by BlackPlanet.com, a mixed social network 16 million deep, as a result SupaStishun was featured in VIBE Magazine Jan. 2008 issue to help increase his publicity on a national level.
