[edit] Overflowing
hi, thanks for corrections in the description of image of Powai Lake in 2005 Maharashtra floods – actually the Lake was not trying to overflow, Bhadani was overflowing with wiki-energy (lol). --Bhadani 13:25, 8 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Request
Would you be kind enough to balance the argument in Suttee with an Indian perspective. Also, let me know if you think I am overreacting --Pranathi 05:14, 9 August 2005 (UTC)
Thanks much for replying, Sundar. we can't really justify Suttee - I am not (& will not) justifying/defending it (I only want the comment removed). lived in a space that we occupy now. I find that kind of antiseptic.
if the factual accuracy of the quote is disputed, then it can be removed The factual accuracy is in dispute, but they argue that the accuracy is immaterial. Also it's acknowledged that Napier was not a big player in the sati abolition dynamics, but his comment is kept for it's value as a sound bite. I don't agree. The reason I wanted an Indian perspective was that the 2 others in the dialogue don't acknowledge the rascist connotations of the comment, but I am glad to see that you do.
take a break from that article I think I'll take your advice. I'll stop by .. try to sort out Thanks, I look forward to seeing you there. --Pranathi 18:28, 11 August 2005 (UTC)
No, no offense taken. I tend to think that India always was a civilizational entity and had a distinct cultural ethos (much like Europe), regardless of it's political unity. I agree that historical wrongs must not be justified. My POV though, is that India is not defined/defended by her own folk and is at the mercy of a solely western version of her history. Most Indians think of western accounts as the neutral 'outsider' POV, whereas they may also have their own agenda and are seldom NPOV. Wikipedia is one of few places available to discuss & try to correct the imbalance. --Pranathi 07:03, 14 August 2005 (UTC)
BTW, it seems like we are reaching common ground on suttee discussion pages!! --Pranathi 15:14, 14 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] me
Hi. just saw your post. Didn't notice it as pamri had posted a message after you. I'll reply to you later..., I want to finish the refs. in the eco of India first (don't want to keep people waiting for so many hours) :). User:Nichalp/sg 09:48, August 11, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Mumbai
I'm having a dispute with a user on the definition of 'Mumbai'. (Template Talk:Mumbai infobox). Mumbai is defined by the two districts. This area is called the Mumbai metropolis. A city/metropolis in India is defined by a municipality. He cites the MMRDA website (see the map). [MMRDA is a state govt. initiative, not a municipality].
Unfortunately the term "Mumbai" is not used at all outside the municipal limits as defined on the Mumbai page, and is not considered a part of the city by anyone of us here, or by residents in those area, (New Bombay/Kalyan etc.). User:Nichalp/sg 06:13, August 16, 2005 (UTC)
- I glanced over the discussion. Will give my inputs once I find some time. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 06:34, August 16, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Image caption
My mistake. The ticket seemed to say BOMBAY CENTRAL. Thanks for correcting the correction. However, you may do well to tone down your comments, such as vandalism etc. and ask for the reason before jumping to conclusions.
It will spare you and others a lot of bandwidth.
[edit] Vaigai River and adminship
I don't know much about the aspects of the Vaigai River you were asking about, but the role of the river in Sangam lore sounds interesting; I organized similar information about the Narmada River into a section of that article, which may helpful to you in organizing the information for the Vaigai article. Whatever you know about the Varushanad Hills or the Kambam Valley would be helpful in getting those articles started as well.
Thanks for the offer to nominate me for adminship; I don't think it is something I want to take on right now, but I will let you know if I change my mind.

[edit] MMRDA
Forget it! I don't want to waste my energy typing single characters at a time in Hindi. That person... she just can't figure out basic internet terms. No point talking to a thick wall. PS, I've managed to get permission from indianchild.com. It has a vast resource of India-related information. They only ask for a link back to the site and are more than happy to have it under the =Reference= section. I've cleaned up the Anglo-Indian using their info. [edit] Ayyavazhi
Hello Sundar, Iam Vaikunda Raja. You placed in the discussion page of Vaigai that you had not heared about Ayyavazhi. Not only you, none out of the southern districts of Tamil Nadu might have chances to know about Ayyavazhi. There are many reasons for that. Mainly, this is the fact. Vaikundar is generally viewed as a leader of his own caste or as a reformer. Then the organisation (governing bodies) is too bad, not bad worst. The legend Akilattirattu Ammanai was not nowadays respected. I think you are a Tamilian. The legend (Akilattirattu Ammanai) too is in Tamil. Oh! I've gone far away. By the way, have you read the articles on Ayyavazhi? - வைகுண்ட ராஜா
[edit] Districts of Uttar Pradesh
My request to User:Hemanshu User:Nichalp User:Sundar – please see my comments on the talk page of Districts of Uttar Pradesh and please post your advice/comments/suggestions there. Thank you. --Bhadani 08:18, 26 August 2005 (UTC)
- By the way, few days before I had seen your notice about cutting down your wiki-time. Why? --Bhadani 08:19, 26 August 2005 (UTC)
- You returned the message about Districts of Uttar Pradesh so fast, thanks. Actually, I saw your message immediately, but did not want to disturb you. And, you really do small things because you know for sure that Small is Beautiful. --Bhadani 12:42, 26 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Tamil FAs
I notice that UK and Sri Lanka are featured in the ta: version, but no India. :(. I also notice that Tamil Nadu is featured there but not in [[en:]] Interested in correcting these imbalances? :) User:Nichalp/sg 11:16, August 29, 2005 (UTC)
- I know, I've been slow extracting the images for the list as I concentrated on nominating the BEST. I've done half the images so far. Good to know about the ta: version, it must me difficult typing in Tamil. Thanks for supporting me in RFB. :) User:Nichalp/sg 09:40, August 30, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Award to me
My dear Sundar, I thank you for the award, and accept the same with a sense of humbleness. Actually, l feel happy while doing anything on wikipedia, including writing few words about missing Encyclopedia Britannica articles. The List of missing Encyclopedia Britannica 2004 articles is like a gold mine for me, from where I draw the topics. Real kudos to those who have created the list. --Bhadani 16:33, 31 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Tamil
Uniqueness to the India page. Nice to hear it. Jimbo Wales had hoped this would happen, instead of mere translations.
You can revert him. The 3RR does not apply to the reverts of simple vandalism; and since it is a clear copyvio, no one is going to block you. (PS. Violations of the 3RR occur on the 4th revert, not the 3rd.). I'd suggest you put it up in Admin's noticeboard under 'vandalism in progress", as the anon is coming back with unique IPs. Blocking the whole range might be counterproductive. If he does come back, the page can be protected as a temporary measure. User:Nichalp/sg 10:28, September 3, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] First of sorts
I'm trying to undertake a first of sorts. I've just nominated High Courts of India to FLC. I also plan to expand the article and nominate it to FAC status. What do you think? Suggestions required. User:Nichalp/sg 06:09, September 5, 2005 (UTC)
- Let me get the article through FL status first. Got three votes so far. Spoke to Raul, he said he'd be happy if the list matter was <33%. So we'll have quite a bit of expansion to do. User:Nichalp/sg 09:43, September 5, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks
Thanks for your support and long standing help in my recent RFB nomination. I'm now WP newest bureaucrat. :) Regards, User:Nichalp/sg 18:36, September 6, 2005 (UTC)
- I didn' know you pop in this late. I'm not working on an Indian article this time, but as a celebration I'm going to pump a lot more FAs soon, starting with Bhutan tomorrow. (User:Nichalp/Bhutan) . South Indian cuisine ... experienced it.... User:Nichalp/sg 19:10, September 6, 2005 (UTC)
-
- Yeah, will put it up in a short while, was having a competition with Belarus as to who will FAC first. I lost. Lightning forced me to log-off. Was wondering if you could provide me with a tamil stub for Bhutan. Thanks. User:Nichalp/sg 04:10, September 8, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Bhutan
Just see if Bhutan is OK. I don't like the wording in the =notes= section. Anything else? User:Nichalp/sg 05:49, September 8, 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking the time out on the article. I've gone ahead and listed it on FAC. User:Nichalp/sg 06:32, September 8, 2005 (UTC)
