[edit] Speedy tag removed

I've removed the speedy tag, because {{db-bio}} can be used only if there is no assertion of notability; this article says he won Vir Chakra. Even if it doesn't provide refs, it cannot be deleted as db-bio. Please use prod instead. utcursch | talk 12:11, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

By that logic I can claim I am the President of the United States and provide no other evidence. Notability requires more than hearsay: "A topic is notable if it has been the subject of at least one substantial or multiple, non-trivial published works from sources that are reliable and independent of the subject and of each other." And in this case I only now checked to see that both URLs provided are invalid as well. One links to a memorial body building competion in his name. The other to a miltary memorial page with a dead link. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by BaseballDetective (talkcontribs) 12:13, 15 March 2007 (UTC).
The proper way is to use prod, not CSD. If you claim to be the President of United states, that will be speedy deleted as patent nonsense, not as {{db-bio}}. In this case, the external links confirm that he is a soldier who died in some Siachen battle. It does assert notability, even though it doesn't provide any reference for that. So, it cannot be deleted as CSD. Please go through the WP:CSD guidelines -- they've been formed after a lot of consensus. I've PRODded the article instead. utcursch | talk 12:27, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for doing that now. My question to you is given the evidence—or lack of it—before, why are you doing this now? Don't answer if you don't feel like it. But the assertions made by this article dwarf to the lack of evidence. --BaseballDetective 12:33, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion is an official policy. An article cannot be speedy deleted just because there is a lack of references or evidence about notability. The policy has been decided by consensus of many Wikipedians. No admin would have deleted the page as {{db-bio}}, because notability has been asserted, and eventually it would have been either prodded or sent to AfD. utcursch | talk 13:16, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
