Summerfield is a town in Guilford County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 7,018 at the 2000 census. The official town limits of Summerfield are entirely located within Guilford County. The town is largely regarded as a suburb of Greensboro and as development has grown, the town has slowly transformed from a rural farming area into a bedroom community.

Summerfield is located at 36°11′57″N, 79°53′9″W (36.199123, -79.885866)[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 27.3 square miles (70.7 km²), of which, 27.1 square miles (70.2 km²) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.4 km²) of it (0.62%) is water.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 7,018 people, 2,518 households, and 2,094 families residing in the town. The population density was 258.9 people per square mile (100.0/km²). There were 2,653 housing units at an average density of 97.9/sq mi (37.8/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 93.47% White, 4.03% African American, 0.44% Native American, 0.64% Asian, 0.56% from other races, and 0.85% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.42% of the population.

There were 2,518 households out of which 41.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 74.4% were married couples living together, 6.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 16.8% were non-families. 14.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.07.

In the town the population was spread out with 28.1% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 30.5% from 25 to 44, 27.9% from 45 to 64, and 8.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 99.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.2 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $71,738, and the median income for a family was $79,433. Males had a median income of $51,838 versus $32,798 for females. The per capita income for the town was $33,116. About 2.5% of families and 3.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.3% of those under age 18 and 6.6% of those age 65 or over.
