Summer Draft
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A naval architecture term for the worst-case loaded draft a ship can have. This draft is corrected for the worst-case seasonal conditions (summer in this case). During the summer months in the northern hemisphere, the water is warmer. Because of this, the water is less dense and expands slightly. This causes ships to have a deeper draft. Summer draft is the opposite of Lightship condition.
