Suma Wholefoods

Suma the largest wholefood wholesaler in England[1]. Suma's main office is based in Yorkshire (UK)[2]. It specializes in vegetarian, fairly traded, organic, ethical and natural products.It is also one of the largest workers co-operatives in the UK with more than 100 members. It is wholly owned and managed by its workforce.

Suma was founded in 1975 by Reg Tayler, a former storekeeper of Plain Grain. Following several expansions and acquistion from the mid 1970's to the early 1980's Suma settled into their current headquarters in the city of Elland.[3]
In March of 2008 Suma partnered with Eureka!, a UK museum, to help promote a healthy lifestyle[4].

Suma rotates its 150+ workers through a variety of jobs to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the operation[5].

In March of 2008 Suma recalled over twelve products due to the presence of salmonella.[6]
