Sudan Liberal Party

Sudan Liberal Party is a social Liberal Party in Sudan, founded in 2003 by young Sudanese activists. It held its first congress in 2006.

Since it was established in September 2003, SLP has been one of the most active forces in Sudan struggling against the fundamentalist dictatorship, defending human rights and womens' rights, calling for justice and comprehensive peace in Southern, Eastern and Western Sudan (Darfur).

SLP has established the Human Rights Centre of Sudan Liberal Part, monitoring human rights violation in Sudan. SLP was in all campaigns to release political prisoner and detainees, Including the last campaign to release Dr. Mudawi Ibrahim Adam and his colleagues ( February March 2005 ) . SLP has also struggled against Civil War(s) in Sudan and all human rights violation within War Zones.

SLP is the first and the only political party in Sudan calling openly for a free market economy, SLP has published one of the most advanced economical programs in this field, calling for the creation of free market zones projects in the border areas of Darfur and Eastern Sudan and programs of rebuilding the war devastated areas based on free market principles.

SLP is lead by the General National Congress, which is the highest authority in the part, and elects the Central Committee (leading body), the General Control Committee (controlling body), and General Party Court (legal body). The Central Committee elects the Executive Committee, which is the day to day executive body.

The Control Committee and Party Court are independent from the Executive leadership and responsible before the Congress, the National Congress is held once every 2 years.

SLP has branches and units in 16 main towns, it is relatively strong in Atbara, Rufa’a, Al Obied and Kadugli. However almost half of SLP membership is concentrates in Khartoum Province, which is inhabited by 1/5 of the population of the country.

Mrs. Nour Tawir Kafi Abu Rass is the President of the party; Mrs. Zahra Hayder is the Secretary General of the Party, and Mr. Muhannad Zamil is the editor of 'Libro, the party newspaper.
