Sucre notes used during the last years before dollarization (2000): S/. 5000 (front side: Ambato writer Juan Montalvo; back side: Galapagos tortoise), S/. 10000 (front: first Ecuadorian president Vicente Rocafuerte; back: Independence Square (Plaza Grande), Quito), S/. 20000 (front: former president Gabriel Garcia Moreno; back: Ecuador coat of arms), and S/. 50000 (front: former president Eloy Alfaro Delgado; back: Ecuador coat of arms). Due to devaluation just before dollarization, when the Sucre was fixed to 25,000 per US Dollar, the biggest note (50,000) was worth only US$ 2.00 (two Dollars)
