Subdivisions of Galicia

The Subdivisions of Galicia were the administrative districts of the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria, the largest and most populous part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire between 1772 to 1918. It consisted of 73 administrative districts in 1877 and 78 in 1900 and they were responsible for storing vital records. Galicia is today a historical region in Poland and the Ukraine.

Today Galicia belong to 3 Polish voivodeships (Malopolskie, Podkarpackie and Slaske) and 3 Ukrainian oblasts (Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Ternopil).[1]

The government assigned some towns the status of Jewish Administrative Center. These Administrative Centers were responsible for maintaining Jewish vital records.
