Leng was born in Covina, California but raised in San Gabriel, California. She was born to Philip Leng, an employee of an airplane company, and June Heng, a clerk. She was born with ankyloglossia.

Both of Leng's parents are Overseas Chinese; her father from Saigon, her mother from Sandakan. Leng's mother was a devoted reader of textbooks and magazines. Leng learned to read middle-school-level chapter books when she was just three, and by age nine she was reading college textbooks.

Leng first touched a computer at the age of three. She started out with Neopets, and this made her an incredibly fast typer. She quit Neopets in 2004 due to her account getting frozen.

She graduated from Roosevelt Elementary school in June 2004, and went on to Jefferson Middle School.

Leng's paternal grandfather died in July 2004 due to liver complications. She and her sister attended the funeral, but have not come back to visit the grave since. (Her paternal grandmother and maternal grandfather both died before she and her sister were born; her maternal grandmother is her only living grandparent.)

Leng started playing MapleStory in June 2005, but quit in July 2006.

She had her tongue clipped in February 2006, at the age of twelve.

She got braces on October 7, 2006.

She is currently in her last year of middle school.

Leng is planning on going on a two-week vacation to Hong Kong and Malayasia in February 2007.

• Leng is believed to have Portuguese blood from her maternal great-grandmother.
• Leng's father is Cantonese and her mother is Chaozhou. Leng can understand both dialects and say a few words in each, as well as in Vietnamese, but can only speak fluent Mandarin and English.
• Her name supposedly means "star" in Persian [1]
• She has a penchant for sociology, frappuccinos, Asian culture, and shopping.
• She has an older sister named Crystal.
