[edit] king edward vii

King Edward VII is an LEA maintained 11-19 school. The school is situated on a 56 acre green field site on the edge of Melton Mowbray, with almost 2000 students. A third phase specialist technology college, Microsoft Partner School and CISCO Academy, the school has received a range of awards for its work. These include the CISCO Award for Innovative use of ICT and British Council International School Award in 2003. The school was an Enterprise Pathfinder and, in September 2004, we were delighted to be designated as a Training School. The school has its own professional learning centre, is an Investor in People and, in 2003, received a Regional Training Award. More recently, we have been established as a SSAT Research and Development hub, received funding to develop extended services and hold Sportsmark and Artsmark accreditation.

King Edward VII was established in 1910 and some of its original buildings still remain. Around the original core, however, a range of modern blocks have developed. Our Sarson Centre, originally a separate school, provides education for 300 students in Year 7–9. In Year 10, students join us from our three partner high schools and many stay on into our Sixth From of over 500. The site now also incorporates a new special school, which opened in September 2004, with outstanding opportunities for us to develop partnership for inclusion and to meet the needs of all students in our community. The school is regarded as a national and international leader in the use of ICT with networked hubs in each subject area, video conferencing facilities, and extensive wireless networking for laptops. Over summer 2004 we completely replaced our ICT infrastructure and have over 500 computers, providing a computer ratio of 1:4 for students and laptops for all teaching staff.
