The Studies in American Language Program (SAL) at San Jose State University opened in 1975. It is located in San Jose, CA within the Silicon Valley

SAL is an intensive English language program that helps students from all around the world improve their English skills for academic, professional, or personal reasons. Classes at SAL instruct students in academic preparation, TOEFL preparation, MBA preparation, American communication, American culture, business communication, and professional communication.

Some students choose to study at SAL for a short period of time. Other students transfer to a Community College or to San Jose State University through the guidance of the program's advisors.
