Actually, the binomial name attribution is wrong. Linnaeus named the striped hyena "canis hyaena"; later (until at least 1976), the generally accepted named was "hyaena vulgaris", and only after that was it changed to "hyaena hyaena". I'll try to find out when the current name was adopted exactly and who was responsible for it. -- Schnee 16:43, 15 Jun 2004 (UTC)
