[edit] Article

Aside from being poorly written, quite a bit of this entry's information is either inaccurate or a bad transcription from the game manuals.

For example, Hiryu killed his own sister, not someone else's. Matic was and is not the ruler of Mongolia. And no matter where you place the NES game in the timeline, the series' setting is the middle of the 21st century (A.D. 2048 to be precise), not the 20th.

This whole article needs to be cleaned up, rewritten, and restructured as follows:

I. The 1988 Kadokawa Shoten manga (Hiryu's first appearance. Discuss the plot.)

II. The 1989 Arcade game (Again, discuss the plot.)

III. The 1989 NES game (Compare and contrast plot/gameplay with the manga upon which it was based.)

IV. The 1999 Arcade sequel, Strider 2 (plot)

V. Ownership/Copyright Issues (In which we delve into the mystery of who created Hiryu. Was it Capcom? Was it Moto Kikaku? Who truly owns the copyrights to the Hiryu character? And why is it impossible to find out anything else about Moto Kikaku?)

The manga and games should be put in that sequence because that is their order of release. There is no way to put the games in any kind of chronological order, as the only specific date mentioned in the games themselves is the "A.D. 2048" appearing at the beginning of the arcade game.

This article will be vastly improved if someone takes the time to clean it up. ~Scion, webmaster of the Light Sword Cypher Mainframe

Oh, did I hit a nerve? The time it would take to restructure and improve this article is more time than I currently have. If I did have the time to work on this, I'd make a Recon article out of it instead and post it on my website. My website is my project. This is your project (as you're the one who yanked it off of the main Strider Wiki), and it's not on some backwater site. It's a Wikipedia article, which means everyone sees it. Take the time to improve it by cleaning up your writing, and don't get touchy when people suggest ways to do so. ~Scion
I'm fine, thanks. {{sofixit}} may be a bit incivil, but its a wiki, and being bold is one of the important aspects of making a great article. I've played the game oh-so long ago, and I retrieved my data from my past experieince (which is quite foggy), and not the strider wiki, which I was not aware of. Looking at the history, this was a simple redirect that followed to the Strider (video game) article. I constructed a short article as my knowledge allowed. You are clearly more knowledgeable on this subject and henceforth, I made the suggestion of doing it yourself.
My writing style is competent. I've no opinion of my failing in the source subject, which is (apparently) lacking. However, I'd take my expansion over the redirect regarding the character than nothing at all. -ZeroTalk 17:27, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
Your writing style includes horrible English phrases like "reclused himself", non-words like "incivil", and blatant spelling errors like "collasping", "assasians", and "experieince". Besides which, you did absolutely zero research, as you yourself admit, making your article in direct violation of Wikipedia's standards. Since you are both lazy and incompetent, I went ahead and fixed the page myself. Happy? I personally would have taken the redirect over your incorrect stub of an article.
If you're a Wikipedia member, you need to take more pride in your work. Half-assing a job and putting the research off on someone else because anyone can edit it anyway is unacceptable. ~Scion, LSCM webmaster
Okay. I probably am all of those things. Thank you very much for improving the article today. -ZeroTalk 03:52, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] MvC, NxC, CFA

Although these games aren't part of any canon with the games, a single section explaining his appearances in them might be a good idea. His movelists for the games could also fit very well in with the Weapons and Abilities section, especially his rarely seen movelist from the would-be CFA. I'm not sure if this is really appropriate though, considering that his moves are also listed on wikibooks. WtW-Suzaku 10:57, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image

Is there a reason why the Namco x Capcom concept art was replaced with a screenshot of the arcade game? ~Scion, LSCM webmaster, 27 Nov 2006

Can someone put it back? DeathGodDragon EDGE 02:50, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
Yes, could we? Please? ~Scion, LSCM webmaster, 12 Dec 2006

[edit] The article is a mess.

It's way worse now than it was before. Now it's just an overly bloated plot summaries of a very obscure manga series (that few people outside fans of the character know about) and the three or four games released in the series. It provides no real world context or anything about the character. Not only that, it provides no sources for most of its statements (where does it state that the NES Strider was a failure). For the record, the NES Strider IS NOT an adaptation of the arcade game, it was a separately made game that supposed to came out first, but never saw release in Japan. Jonny2x4 19:32, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

Check the history for this page to see what it was like before I put up the "overly bloated plot summaries". It was inaccurate, misspelled, and a general travesty of an article. I never wanted to put that up in the first place as I'm not a Wiki member, but the member who made a new page didn't want to do the work necessary, forcing my hand.
However, that being said, it had gotten far too bloated. Your condensation is excellent. Thank you for trimming it back and doing such a great job. I took the liberty of making a few grammatical corrections and modifications here and there. I hope you don't mind. ~Scion, LSCM webmaster 23 Feb 2007 —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.1.51.146 (talk) 19:04, 23 February 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Character History vs. Game History

While I have no aesthetic problem with Jonny2x4's trimming down of the article, it occurred to me that the article is now less about the specific history of the character 'Hiryu' and more about the history of the Strider games. Shouldn't it be the other way around? Shouldn't this article be about the development of the character through the games' continuity? Scion, LSCM Webmaster 21:36, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Oh my god. Whoever cleaned up this article to its present state has my undying respect. This is awesome. Thank you. Scion, LSCM Webmaster 20:49, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Strider Returns

Does Strider Returns really belong in this article? While Hinjo is obviously a sprite edit of Hiryu, Hiryu and Hinjo are two entirely different people aren’t they? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Darkheroriot (talk • contribs) 09:54, August 25, 2007 (UTC)

Not really. The manual uses BOTH names, Hiryu and Hinjo, and clearly implies they're the same guy either way. I know some fans attempt to further distance Strider Returns from the canon by saying it had a different hero, but I think thats ridiculous. Jonny2x4 02:16, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Methinks the "Hiryu" references in the manual are just slip-ups on U.S. Gold's part; they didn't have the license to use the Hiryu character. It wouldn't be the most egregious of their errors concerning that game. As that's just my opinion though, I don't see why we shouldn't include Strider Returns in the history. It'll be another alternate universe, after Strider Earth 1 (the manga/NES game), Strider Earth 2, (the arcade game/Strider 2), and Strider Earth 3 (Marvel vs. Capcom 1&2/Namco x Capcom).Scion, LSCM Webmaster (talk) 19:06, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Trivia?

Okay. Trivia sections are discouraged under Wiki guidelines. However... the info contained in this new section is quite interesting. I'd never heard of this "Shadow Boy" anime before, or anything about its link to the Strider series. The main character and Hiryu do share a certain... je ne sai quois, striking visual similarity. Anyone have any verifiable source concerning this supposed link between the two? Scion, LSCM Webmaster (talk) 19:11, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Strider.png

Image:Strider.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
