I have come across the term "Stressor" used in Forensic Psychology to define an event which triggers a patient's disorder. Such as some event in a serial killer's life which sends him or her on a killing spree. Unfortunately, I don't have any sources for this information other than the TV show Criminal Minds--which I am likely to believe, but it doesn't sound like a believable source on, say, a paper.
