[edit] Copyvio problem for biography

The whole biography seems to be largely a copyvio of sources on the internet. According to copyscape.com, the most likely candidate is here, with a visual comparison here. This section will have to be rewritten unless the original writer supplies his/her consent. I have replaced the offending text with a copyvio notice for now. Dewet 22:36, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Biography overhaul

The biography section really needs an overhaul. It's incomplete, and omits all the early history of the band. I would take a shot at it myself, but I'm afraid I don't know enough about the early years of the band. Isn't there any knowledgeable Stratovarius fan willing to take up the challenge? Wolfmoon 11:45, 18 Aug 2005 (UTC)

If you want it done, you should probably do it yourself. That's the Wikipedia way. What is Google for, after all? --Sn0wflake 18:19, 18 August 2005 (UTC)
I took a shot at expanding the bio. There's more that can be done, but now at least the entire history of the band is touched upon. --213.65.178.186 09:51, 20 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Albums

So there are the albums now. I have put general info (track list, infobox) but please add more info about the album itself (review, or anything significant marking that album)! That's it. Death2 23:45, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

what about that classical-styled album by tolkii, cant remember the name, is that stratovarius or a side project? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Worosei (talk • contribs).

[edit] Christian influences?

Why do some people repeatedly add that Stratovarius are inspired by Christian themes, even that they are Christian metal (which they are not by any means!)? Some songs are openly against religions (the utopist "Fantasia" for example), and I can find no reference whatsoever to Christianity in their lyrics, certainly nothing explicit enough to conclude that they are inspired by Christian themes and not just spiritual themes. But please tell me if I'm mistaken. IronChris | (talk) 22:45, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

I've listened to this band for hundreds of hours total in my life, and can't think of a single song which is openly "christian". There's references to religions in songs like "false messiah" or "fantasia" (that you mentioned), though.IMHO they don't state any clear religious beliefs in their songs, remaining quite neutral on the topic.--HJV 22:02, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
Timo Tolkki is openly anti-Christian —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.216.122.30 (talk) 03:46, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Current Image

This is just my personal opinion, but I reckon the Stratovarius Firelily was awesome. What should be put as the current image? --Dayn 04:32, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Note that basically all articles using the {{infobox musical artist}} template put an image of the band there, not the logo. As for the logo itself, it was repeated, once in the infobox, and another in the album section. There is no need for such repetition. The album image should be removed because it is used as a decoration, and the Firelily could be added, along with some critical description of it (in example, why it is the band' symbol, when it was created, by who, etc. -- ReyBrujo 05:10, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
Fair enough. I just think the Firelily is pretty. --Dayn 06:59, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] More Current Image Discussion

Relating to the above section. I think that http://www.stratovarius.com/bandimages/123.jpg or http://www.stratovarius.com/bandimages/35.jpg or http://www.stratovarius.com/bandimages/81.jpg would be better as a picture than the current one. Because you can clearly see all the members.

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Stratovarius Stratovarius.jpg

Image:Stratovarius Stratovarius.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Progressive metal?

I'd say Strato is also progressive metal. I'm gonna stick that in there, and if someone doesn't like it we'll have a talk about it here. Blizzard Beast $ODIN$ 18:55, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

To be honest, I don't hear it. What would you say classifies them as progressive? Offski (talk) 20:33, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Anybody? I'll delete it soon if there's still no response. Offski (talk) 10:42, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
At least songs Thin Ice, Full Moon, Dreamspace, Twilight Time and 030366 sound very much like the songs that some official prog metal band could'v been wroted.
5 songs really doesn't cut it, especially because Full Moon wasn't even an album track. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.216.143.68 (talk) 00:53, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Impact section

"While Helloween, the band most often cited as the founders of the genre, contributed elements such as guitar solos and high pitched epic vocals to power metal, some believe it was Stratovarius who introduced the omnipresent double-bass speed drumming, unique time signatures, and an overall "epic" feeling."

I won't try to argue Helloween were the ones who introduced the double-bass drumming and the epic feeling to this subsection of hard rock/metal. However, I do not think it's makes sense to state that Stratovarious introduced these things that Helloween were doing years before, in the same sentence that Helloween are named as founding the genre. Sektledaren

"Stratovarius are credited with reintroducing keyboards to metal as a routine instrument, not one merely used for backing sounds. They also reinvented its use as a solo instrument"

It's just not true, it was actually created by Yngwie Malmsteen. The COB quote which has no citation, even if that quote is true , that is not true what he says, again, what he credits for Stratovarius was created by Yngwie Malmsteen. And who cares if they had impact on COB?Actually they were the most influential euro metal band after Visions release, and that's the only thing that matters, that a question of editorial quality.I will write a totally new Impact section and i hope you all agree with me.By Perez.

Timo Tolkki has a history of nervous breakdowns, Jens Johannson, who manages the forums, has made no indication one way or another about the band's future. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.216.96.8 (talk) 01:16, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Timo had ONE nervous breakdown several years ago, but it's not something that makes a person prone to lying. --Managerpants (talk) 10:56, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
And since Timo writes 95% of the songs, I'd say that without him there isn't really a Stratovarius. I doubt the other members would continue with the name. Offski (talk) 12:25, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
No, people, I'm definatly going with Jorg Michael, Jens Johannson and the rest of the band here, Stratovarius definitely isn't finished. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.216.143.68 (talk) 00:50, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

"Already many fans have asked the remaining members to change the band's name": this is not neutral point of view. Some fans have asked that, and many other (maybe most) have asked the remanining members to continue... 89.17.160.11 (talk) 09:23, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
