The main problem with the subject of the Stradbroke Island Galleon legend is that there has been no effort by mainstream academia to test the theory that the shipwreck is pre-Cook. Rather, because the "galleon" story falls outside their established paradigms of Australian history, they simply attempt to discredit or ignore the theory and mounting body of evidence for a pre-Cook shipwreck on Stradbroke Island, or anywhere on the east coast of Australia for that matter. The question is why? My theory is that, historically, it has simply always been the nature of the "Establishment" to defend the status quo from antyhing which threatens it. This has occurred in all levels of society throughout history, whether in religion, science or the arts. Almost ineveitably, because of this, major breakthroughs come from "outsiders" who are prepared to throw off the blinkers and examine evidence in an impartial and unbiased fashion
