Stranger Than Fiction (Rock Bottom Remainders album)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stranger Than Fiction is an album by Wrockers, a one-off band name created by combining the words "writer" and "rocker." It was released in 1998 on Don't Quit Your Day Job Records.
This album is incorrectly attributed by the above article header to the Rock Bottom Remainders. It is in fact an offshoot of the Rock Bottom Remainders project, rather than a Rock Bottom Remainders record.
A garage band formed to play at book fairs and comprised of bestselling authors including Stephen King, Amy Tan and Dave Barry, the Remainders were originally created under the musical directorship of the late musician Warren Zevon. The 32 artists on Stranger Than Fiction are all authors, and they include not only many of the Remainders but also rock critics Dave Marsh, Ben Fong-Torres and Greil Marcus, film critic Leonard Maltin and such literary heavyweights as Norman Mailer and Maya Angelou. Zevon contributed liner notes and a variety of famous musicians played on the tracks, including Zevon, Jeff "Skunk" Baxter of the Doobie Brothers, and Jerry Jeff Walker.
Proceeds from this project were contributed to a variety of charities promoting literature and literacy.
