Although most of the bands and artists listed are hardcore punk, artists from other genres like industrial music, power pop, Oi!, post-punk/post-hardcore, new wave, folk punk, heavy metal, electronic dance music, hip hop and indie rock (among others) who have a straight edge ethos are included in this list. For example, Ted Nugent predates hardcore punk but his anti-alcohol, anti-drugs and anti-tobacco stance was influential in straight edge's inception.
