I thought Stihl was the inventor of the first chain saw

Stihl built the first chain saw in 1926, but it was electrically powered. Dolmar (www.dolmar.de) developed the first gasoline powered chainsaw in 1927. It required two persons for operation and could only make vertical cuts. Dolmar also developped the first chainsaw which could be handled by one person in 1952.

[edit] Pronunciation

How is "Stihl" pronounced? —Ben FrantzDale (talk) 02:56, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Like steel or shteel depending on the German speaker's area of origin (shteel is more common, but in parts of Northern Germany, steel will probably be the dominating pronunciation.) Gestumblindi (talk) 23:25, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
