Stine Rossel
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stine Rossel is a Danish archaeologist. She works at the University of Copenhagen. Her interests include zooarchaeology, the effects of environmental change on animal use, and the rise of complex societies.
On October 20, 2007, while hiking in the White Mountains in New Hampshire, Stine Rossel and Brian Wood were involved in a tragic accident that led to the death of Stine. They were enjoying a beautiful fall day when the accident occurred, and we know that Stine did not suffer. We are all shocked and deeply saddened by this event. All who met Stine know what an instantly likable, generous, and truly wonderful person she was. We all lack words to describe her beauty and the positive impact she had on so many of us. She was a PhD student in the Department of Anthropology and had just finished her doctorate this September. Brian and Stine were married two months ago in a wonderful ceremony north of Copenhagen. Stine was visiting Brian while on a break from teaching at the University of Copenhagen. Brian's family and friends are nearby him now as they work through the profound grief this will cause him and all of Stine's friends and family. Stine's parents will be joining him soon.
A memorial service is currently being organized, and is likely to occur later this week. More details will be sent out later so that we who knew and loved Stine can share our thoughts and emotions and remember the truly exceptional person she was and the life she led.
A funeral honoring Stine Rossel will be held on Friday, November 16th at 2:00 pm at Christianskirken in Christianhavn. This will be followed on the same day by a memorial gathering at the Geological Museum in Copenhagen, at 5 pm. An announcement of this funeral and memorial gathering will appear in Politiken newspaper on Thursday, November 8th.
