Stina Nordenstam (born Kristina Marianne Nordenstam March 4, 1969 in Stockholm, Sweden) is a Swedish Experimental Pop singer, songwriter and musician.

Stina's distinctive, breathy voice led to early comparisons with artists like Rickie Lee Jones and Björk. Her early albums, Memories Of A Colour and And She Closed Her Eyes were significantly jazz-influenced with subtle elements of alternative rock. With 1997's Dynamite she started down a darker, more experimental path - most of the album was filled with over-processed distorted electric guitars and unusual beats, but careful listening revealed her unique songwriting abilities. An album of covers, People Are Strange, followed before she returned in 2001 with This Is Stina Nordenstam, an album with shorter songs and a more pop-like, but still highly distinctive feel; ex-Suede vocalist Brett Anderson featured on two tracks. In 2000 she featured on one track from Danish prog-rockers Mew's second album Half The World Is Watching Me. The same track was later re-recorded for the bands international debut Frengers. Her 2004 album The World Is Saved continues the path set on This Is..., but presents a more realized sound and acknowledges her earlier jazz influences more.

In addition to being a musician, Nordenstam is also an accomplished artist in other fields, such as photography and music video directing.

Nordenstam is known to be reclusive: She gives very few interviews and she hasn't performed live since the Memories Of A Colour tour. She even alters her appearance using wigs and make-up for album covers and magazines. During the promotion for The World Is Saved, however, she gave more interviews than usual.

As of January 2007, www.stinanordenstam.com has reappeared with an image hinting of a forthcoming album.

Stina's sister Emma Nordenstam is also a singer and songwriter.

Stina Nordenstam's releases on the East West Records label in Europe from 1991 to 1998 usually consisted of a CD Single and a 10-Inch vinyl single, a format rarely used by other artists. More typical 12-inch single and 7-inch single formats were also sometimes issued for Nordenstam's singles. People Are Strange was the last to have a commercial vinyl release, subsequent issues being CD only.

Stina has produced various sound installations in recent years.

  • Isens Fasor (2004), a piece based on the voyage of Austrian explorers Julius von Payer and Karl Weyprecht to Franz Josef land in the Arctic Circle.
  • Tarantula (2005), a sound installation created for the Swedish play Tarantula.
  • Magasin (2005), a project about UFO encounters and the way the human mind records events.
