Talk:Stevenage
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This article was a mess. There were multiple history sections, and a partial sentence seemed to be part of a failed copy/edit from some other source. So I rewrote it from scratch. Jeff Knaggs 12:36, 15 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Good job - but why didn't you mention the fact that Stevenage is also the unofficial Mecca for Burberry clad, hooded chavs? Thats a major reason why I left.
- Are you implying there's an official Mecca for Burberry clad, hooded chavs? Sweetie Petie 19:37, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chavs
Indeed I am sir!
Stevenage is the only place I know where they have an ambulance and police response unit set up in the leisure park on friday and saturday night. As they are called so frequently, it was a worthwhile and cost effective step. I kid you not!! (even saw it on ITV)
Additionally, walking in the town centre, one in every three girls 14-16 seem to have a baby. Must have been the inspiration for Viz's "Kappa Slappa".
(P.s as you may have figured out, the previous comment about the chavs was mine, I'm new to this and didn't know how to add a comment and accidently edited one! Sorry)
- So, you think that this is unusual in England then? Now been about much then. It's pretty much the same situation in dozens of towns in this country. Could be worse, could be married to a blood relative like Hitchin folk. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.18.73.199 (talk) 20:28, 8 April 2007 (UTC).

- And I think Stevenage is just lovely, and not really that chavvy. Or have I just lived here too long? Sweetie Petie 23:49, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
I've lived here all my life and I think its extremely chavvy. 86.143.30.34 14:46, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- That's cos you're a chav :P -- AnemoneProjectors (talk) 20:17, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Transport
I think there ought to be a transport section. I know there's a railway station, and presumably there are buses, taxis, cycle lanes etc. as well. Does anybody know enough to add to the article? A bit iffy 13:04, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
- I think the cycle lanes should definintely be mentioned. National Cycle Network route 12 passes through Stevenage. — AnemoneProjectors (talk) 14:28, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
- Right we have got a Buss Service which is opperated by arriva and cycle ways as mentioned above Center buss and the uno buss company run on the subject of taxis we have got Ace taxis who run from the glebe and a few other srvices who names i can not think off at the moment —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jason Rees (talk • contribs) 21:21, 22 December 2006 (UTC).
[edit] Sport Stevenage
Hi,
Can we mention something here about sport in Stevenage?
Sport Stevenage is the sports council for the town; it is Sport England at the local level. We have a new Web site: sportstevenage.co.uk which features a "club finder" where you may search for local sports clubs. You may also find sport news articles of local interest and information about upcoming sport events.

[edit] Correcting some latin
"six tumuli" should actually read "sex tumuli"
- "Six tumuli" is English, not Latin. — AnemoneProjectors (zomg!) 13:18, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Population
According to Herts county council, the population for Stevenage town was 80,873[1]. Therefore, how comes the estimation for 2005 is less?
