DeVito first gained notoriety as the guitarist for punk rock band The Secret Syde. The band was very active in the early 1980s, and their debut album "Hidden Secrets" was well-received in the Netherlands. The Secret Syde disbanded in the late 1980s, and failed reunion attempts were made in both 2000 and 2002.

Steve DeVito did background vocals on the single "I Walk Alone" by the X-Men, which is featured on the CD "Bands Only a Mutha Could Love."

In 2004 Steve began touring with his friend Josh Zuckerman. Aside from touring with Zuckerman, Steve will also be featured on Josh's future studio albums. He took part in the filming of Zuckerman's subsequent music videos as well.
