[edit] Biography

Steve Augeri was the lead vocalist in Tall Stories, who released a single self-titled album in 1991. He went on to sing with Tyketto for their 1995 album, Shine, following the departure of previous vocalist and founding member Danny Vaughn, but the band split up the following year.

Augeri retired from music in the mid-1990s after Tall Stories ran out of momentum. He was working at a Gap store when Journey guitarist Neal Schon came into contact with a demo tape of Augeri's. Journey was, at the time, looking for new lead singer after the loss of Steve Perry, who had left the band following their brief mid-1990s reunion due to touring conflicts and health issues.

Journey hired Steve Augeri in 1998.[citation needed] Augeri's debut with the band was on the single "Remember Me" from the Armageddon movie soundtrack. He then appeared on the album Arrival, the Red 13 EP and the Generations album.

Augeri suffered ongoing voice problems during Journey's 2006 tour. It was announced after a show on July 4th [1] that he was to be replaced on tour by Jeff Scott Soto, vocalist with Neal Schon's side project Soul Sirkus. Augeri was diagnosed as suffering from a throat infection and was advised to rest his vocal cords while recovering.

On December 19, 2006 a statement was released on the band's official website [2] announcing that Jeff Scott Soto was the new lead singer of Journey, filling in for Steve Augeri. On June 12, 2007, the band's website announced that Soto was no longer the lead singer for Journey. Soto's last performance with the band was May 12th, 2007 in Leesburg, VA. Augeri is now said to be working on a solo album, due for release later in 2008, and is also planning a Tall Stories album featuring previously unreleased material.

Augeri recently sang at Glen Burtnik's 2007 Christmas Extravaganza, and will be performing with Tall Stories at Firefest V in Nottingham on October 26th, 2008. The band will perform songs from their first album and new tracks from an upcoming album, which is expected to be released sometime in 2008.

Steve Augeri is the father of Tragedy Awaits Us drummer, Adam Augeri.
