Stephen Henderson (born 2 May 1988 in Dublin) is an Irish footballer who plays as a goalkeeper. He currently plays for Bristol City.

[edit] Club career

Henderson agreed to join Bristol City in May, 2007 on a one-year deal starting on July 1, 2007, when his contract with Aston Villa expired.[1] He made his debut against Queens Park Rangers in August 2007, coming on as a substitute in the second half.[2] He joined York City on a month's loan in August 2007.[3] He made seven appearances during his spell with the club.[4] He joined Weymouth on a month's loan in February 2008 and spent the rest of the 2007–08 season with the club, making 16 appearances.[5][6] He was offered a new deal with City in May 2008.[7]

Henderson has been capped by Ireland at U-15, U-16, U-19 and made his under-21s debut away to Sweden in October 2007.[8]

Henderson comes from a noted Irish goalkeeping family. His grandfather Paddy, was part of the successful Shamrock Rovers side of the 1960s and his father, also Stephen, played in the League of Ireland in the 1990s and is currently manager of Cobh Ramblers.

His two uncles are also goalkeepers; Dave won several honours with St Patrick's Athletic and Wayne has recently made his debut for the Republic of Ireland national football team.
