"Start!" is a song by The Jam which reached #1 on the UK singles chart in August 1980.
Written by Paul Weller and produced by Vic Coppersmith-Heaven and The Jam, "Start!" was the lead single from the band's fifth album Sound Affects. Upon its release on 15 August 1980 it debuted at #3, rising the following week to become the band's second #1, following "Going Underground". The single's B-side was "Liza Radley".
Showcasing a more experimental style than The Jam's previous recordings, "Start!" is based on both the main guitar riff and bass riff of The Beatles' 1966 song "Taxman" from the album Revolver.[citation needed]
In 2007, this song was used as a jingle for a Cadillac commercial.
