Debuting after the hype of American Idol and others, Starsearch was an instant success in rating for SBC. SBC was the first and only South Pacific station other than TVNZ to conduct an original music talent search TV program. TV Tonga soon followed with their Tongan Idol, and American Samoa with their My Idol.
