Staines & West Drayton Railway opened between West Drayton and Colnbrook in 1884, and reached Staines by 1885, where it terminated. The line had five intermediate stations serving the villages of Colnbrook and Poyle. The line was closed to passengers in 1965. The line between Staines and Poyle was closed entirely in 1981, but freight trains still operate between West Drayton and Poyle. At the southern end of Poyle the track has been lifted and replaced with housing. The former trackbed has also been covered by the enlarged M25 motorway.

There are plans to re-lay track along the former southern part of the route for the AirTrack rail link from Staines to Heathrow Airport.
