Stairway_to_Heaven_by_Led_Zeppelin.ogg (Ogg Vorbis sound file, length 41s, 59kbps)

"Stairway to Heaven", Led Zeppelin, 1971.

The sample was created using Audacity, and has a Vorbis quality settings of 0. See Wikipedia:Music samples for more information.

This sample is 41 seconds long, less than 10% of 8:03 (48 seconds) but more than the 30 seconds maximum allowed. I believe an exception can be made in this case because it's a long, slow song and that's how long the first verse is.

This audio sample is important because it is Led Zeppelin's version of Stairway to Heaven, the most famous version.

[edit] Rationale of fair use for Stairway to Heaven

  1. It illustrates an educational article that specifically discusses the song from which this sample was taken
  2. It is a sample from a much longer recording, and could not be used as a substitute for the original commercial recording
  3. It is not replaceable with an uncopyrighted or freely copyrighted sample of comparable educational value
  4. It is believed that this sample will not affect the value of the original work or limit the copyright holder's rights or ability to distribute the original recording

I believe that this use of the excerpt is in good faith, and that its inclusion does not reduce the commercial value of the recording from which it was drawn. Peregrine Fisher 10:27, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
