Die Staatlichen Antikensammlungen in München wurden 1838 bis 1848 im Auftrag von König Ludwig I. durch Friedrich Ziebland in der Art eines korinthischen Tempels am Königsplatz errichtet. Der Bau ergänzte das durch Architekt Leo von Klenze ab 1815 am Königsplatz geschaffene hellenistische Forum. Nach der Zerstörung im Zweiten Weltkrieg erfolgte die Wiedereröffnung 1967.
