St Thomas' Church, Stockport
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
St Thomas' Church is a church in Stockport, England. The church was designed by George Basevi in the classical style and paid for entirely by the first grant to the Church Commissioners. It was consecrated in 1825 and could seat 2000.[1] The six-columned portico faces away from the 'obvious' main entrance (from the A6); the road was built after the church, to by-pass the town centre.[2] The building was listed grade I in 1952.[3]
