[edit] Best-ever season
Don't think 98-99 was their best ever season. They also came third back in the early 70s, under Willie Ormond, when Henry Hall was playing, behind Celtic and Aberdeen and ahead of Rangers! PatGallacher 2005 July 9 10:04 (UTC)
Are Livingston not also unbeaten at home in European competition?
[edit] The Richard Thompson reference
The actual intro went on to say that St. Johnstone lives on mostly in the name of the football club "so inept that those who don't live in the area often think the full name is 'St. Johnstone-Nil'"
[edit] Notable Former Players
I propose trimming this list quite severely. What is genuinely notable about many of the players listed? Obviously this is a matter which comes down to individual opinion to some extent, but here is my proposal:
[edit] Keep
- Jimmy Benson
- John Brogan (record goal scorer)
- Alex Ferguson (now manager at arguably the biggest club in Britain if not the world; scored hat-trick at Ibrox)
- Ally McCoist
- Sandy McLaren (capped for Scotland)
- Drew Rutherford (record number of appearances)
- Sergei Baltacha (played at the highest level of the game i.e. won 47 full caps for the Soviet Union and made nearly 300 appearances for Dynamo Kiev)
Anyone else? Grievous Angel 10:30, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
- In the List of [blank F.C.] players articles around Wikipedia, the criterion includes those who have made 100 or more appearances for the club and those who have made a significant impact on the club.
With that, the following should also be included:
- Roddy Grant (goals haul a major bonus)
- John Lambie
- Alan Main (though he's about to become a current Saints player again)
- Kevin McGowne
- John McQuillan
- John O'Neil
- Allan Preston
- Jim Weir
- Paul Wright (goals haul a major bonus)
- Nick Dasovic
- Paul Cherry
- Andy Rhodes
- Danny Griffin
- George O'Boyle (goals haul a major bonus)

100 or more appearances could easily be reached in 2-3 seasons i.e. a fairly standard contract term. Agree with the significant impact part. Dominic Kinnear didn't even play for the first team, not even once. He doesn't warrant a mention in "Who's Who of St Johnstone 1948-1992" which lists every player who played at least one game. Just going through A to C in the aforementioned book gives (for more than 100 appearances):
Derek Addison, Kenny Aird, Fred Aitken, Jim Argue, John Balavage, Doug Barron, Stuart Beedie, Jimmy Blyth, Andy Brannigan, Paddy Buckley, Alex Caldwell, Joe Carr, Willie Coburn, John Connolly, Gordon Cramond, Harry Curran
I propose keeping: those playing a significant time at the club, genuinely well-known former players/managers etc who played for Saints, those who made a significant impact e.g. holding a record of some sort (goals, apps), or some other stated reason that makes them notable. [edit] To Do list
I've added a "to do" list after getting a few ideas from the York City F.C. article which gained featured article status. Please add any other ideas to it, or even better, work on the points already listed ;-). If anyone has a particular interest in working on any of the "to dos" leave a note here so others will know you are already covering that point.Grievous Angel 17:38, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, I'm going to work on an article for the "Recreation Grounds" Grievous Angel 14:36, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Image-St Johnstone FC logo.jpg
Image:Image-St Johnstone FC logo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Club kit colours in the infobox
I've attempted to change the kit diagrams to match the current kit. If it can be improved any, please do so, I can't find the guide page to how it gets done. See the many photos on the official site for how the strips look in the "real world". Below is the code for how it was before (just in case it is needed in future):
pattern_la1=_whiteshoulders|pattern_b1=_whiteshoulders|pattern_ra1=_whiteshoulders| leftarm1=0000FF|body1=0000FF|rightarm1=0000FF|shorts1=FFFFFF|socks1=0000FF| pattern_la2= _whiteshoulders|pattern_b2=|pattern_ra2= _whiteshoulders| leftarm2=FFFFFF|body2=FFFFFF|rightarm2=FFFFFF|shorts2=0000FF|socks2=FFFFFF| —Preceding unsigned comment added by Grievous Angel (talk • contribs) 21:48, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
