Talk:St. James Infirmary Blues alternate lyrics
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I saw/heard Arlo Guthrie sing this last night on a TV PBS station and decided to learn it.
In my edit of the lyrics, hag becomes hack, a type of horse-drawn taxi and rhyming with 'back'.
standing there becomes standing pat, a gambling reference, rhyming with 'hat and leading thematically to crapshooters in the first line of the next verse , which itself is contracted to a single word.
Stetson is a proper noun so it is capitalized.
Great song.
